UT Economics Students Receive Multiple Awards at the National Contest for University Students
On Tuesday, 10 December, a ceremonial event was held at the National Library to recognise the best students of 2025 for their outstanding research projects. The National Contest for University Students aims to promote research among students, encourage academic engagement, and acknowledge those who have achieved remarkable results in their work.
Students from the University of Tartu School of Economics and Business Administration distinguished themselves at this year’s contest by earning a total of five special prizes awarded by various ministries. This achievement reflects our students’ dedication and research-driven approach, as well as the professional guidance and support provided by their supervisors throughout the process.
Special Prize of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
For a professional higher education or bachelor's student (600 euros) –
Hannes Palu (University of Tartu) for the research project “Changes in Trade Between the European Union and Selected Eurasian Countries Due to Sanctions Against Russia,” supervised by Priit Vahter and Urmas Varblane.
Special Prizes of the Ministry of Finance
- For a master’s student (900 euros) – Ingrid Tivas (University of Tartu) and Kerli Lill (University of Tartu) for the research project “The Working-Age Population’s Knowledge and Attitudes Towards Saving for Retirement,” supervised by Kristjan Pulk.
- For a master’s student (1600 euros) – Anastasiia Yarmolenko (University of Tartu) for the research project “Predicting the Entry of Estonian Exporting Companies into Markets Outside Europe Using Internationalization and Financial Indicators,” supervised by Oliver Lukason.
- For a master’s student (1600 euros) – Anna-Liisa Anni (University of Tartu) and Maret Sügis (University of Tartu) for the research project “Changes in Financial Reporting and Challenges for Preparers Arising from the Adoption of IFRS 18,” supervised by Kertu Lääts and Riina Alt.
- For a master’s student (1600 euros) – Johannes Reppo (University of Tartu) and Maris Männik-Gaite Cruz (University of Tartu) for the research project “Opportunities and Risks Arising from the Green Transition and ESG Regulations in the Construction and Real Estate Sector,” supervised by Kertu Lääts.
