Management is interactive and practical course that enhances your knowledge and skills for managerial work. Whatever your career aspirations, effective management of yourself and others is essential in teams and organisations.
The course consists of three modules:
I manager and employee (managerial roles, managerial job, values, leadership, performance management, work motivation, performance appraisal, remuneration, feedback),;
II manager and team (project management, group development and group roles, trust in team);
III manager and organisation (financial management, strategic management, life-cycle of the organisation, development scenarios and entering international markets).
You can take the course by attending classes or studying online, by choosing all three modules and an exam (6 ECTS, grade) or individual modules (two modules 3 ECTS, pass/fail). Every module is fours weeks long and ends with written case assignment discussed in group. To take an exam the student has to submit individual assignments, participate in (virtual) seminars, and particiapte in case analysis.
Learning outcomes
The student who has successfully completed this course in volume 6 ECTS has acquired all following learning outcomes and student who has successfully passed this course in volume 3 ECTS has acquired four learning outcomes out of the following: 1. Understands the values and motivation of an individual related to work and work environment as well as their impact on the functioning of the organisation. 2. Understands the specifics of employee performance evaluation, remuneration, and giving feedback on work performance. 3. Understands the phases of Project Management, team and team functioning principles and has acquired teamwork experience.
4. Has solved the problems related to organisational communication, including those affecting organisational image.5. Is able to see the organisation in its entirety and understands its mission, vision, and structure.6. Understands the basic principles of financial management of an organisation and indicators of economic performance in the context of strategic management.Additionally, the student is able to creatively formulate theoretical and practical problems of organisational management and offer solutions to them.Upon completion of the course in volume 6 ECTS the student has applied selected methods of managerial work in (knowledge-intensive) organization.
Brief description
The course is based on various interactive, creative and analytical methods of teaching (i.e. set of lectures, seminars, written assignments, essay, case analysis, group assignments). The participants are expected to prepare for every class. In Fall semester the course is delivered in Estonian and Spring semester in English.
