Oskar Johannes Jõgeva kõne majandusteaduskonna lõpuaktusel.
Good afternoon. I welcome you all to this historical place that is Tartu University. A place known not only for it’s history and infrastructure, but even more for the people whose paths cross this university. People of knowledge, of will and of people who set the foundation for our society.
We have gathered here today to celebrate. To celebrate the end of a small phase of lifelong learning. Most people apply to univeristy for a degree, yet leave with the most important skill of all: the ability to keep learning, because as one of the brightest minds, Albert Einstein once stated: „Once you stop learning, you start dying.“
Looking back, the biggest value of university wasn’t the end result after all. It was the process. Without university, I wouldn’t have traveled across the world for two summers. Without university, I wouldn’t have my coffee company, NeuraCoffee. Without university I wouldn’t have developed the character to keep studying when nothing made sense, or to prepare for exams when it was 24 degrees outside on a friday evening, or to show up to class after around 48 minutes of sleep. But most importantly, without university, I wouldn’t have the lifelong friendships and connections that I have today.
University is like a roller coaster: some cry, some cheer, some scream, some doubt that you can make it till the end of the ride. I remember I had a friend ask me: „Oskar, why do you waste three years of your life for a degree?“ Then as a business student I asked him „Well what’s the ROI of not trying?“ Then he asked me to explain what I meant by that. So at the end of the day it’s not about what you know, it’s about what you do with what you know.
So whatever knowledge you all obtained throughout university, use it wise and use it with pride.
Aitäh / Thank you!
