Rector Toomas Asser and Professor Raul Eamets received the Swedish Royal Order of the Polar Star

During the state visit from 2 to 4 May, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden visited the University of Tartu and awarded Swedish Royal Orders of the Polar Star. 

Rector of the University of Tartu Professor of Neurosurgery Toomas Asser was given the Royal Order of the Polar Star Commander First Class.

Professor of Macroeconomics and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Raul Eamets was given the Royal Order of the Polar Star Commander.

Professor Raul Eamets’s Royal Order of the Polar Star Commander

The Swedish Royal Order of the Polar Star was instituted by King Frederik I in 1748, and it may be given to members of the Swedish Royal Family and foreign nationals in recognition of personal services to Sweden or for the promotion of Swedish interests.
