From curiosity to confidence: how the BBA program shaped my path

Viktoriia Pozhylykh, alumna of the Business Administration programme from Ukraine

When I was searching for a university program, I wasn’t entirely sure what exactly I was looking for. I had always been fascinated by marketing and how we interact with its results in our everyday lives, often without even realising it. At the same time, I was deeply interested in business as a whole – I wanted to understand its organisational structure, how it operates from the inside, and what it takes to run a company like a well-functioning mechanism.

I also knew that I am a very creative and arts-oriented person, yet equally curious about more analytical disciplines such as finance and economics. When I discovered a program that combined all these areas and perfectly aligned with my interests, I had no doubts. From the moment I submitted my application until now, I have been certain that I made the right choice. This program has given me knowledge across all the key areas of business – finance, accounting, marketing, management, communication, and beyond, allowing me to develop both a broad perspective and a strong foundation in the field.

Studying in the BBA program felt like an ideal learning experience. Guest lectures from well-known companies, thought-provoking tasks, real case studies, and the opportunity to fully apply both my creative and analytical potential made the process especially rewarding.

Of course, the journey was not without its challenges. Yet, we were taught to see them as part of the process; that entering university means encountering entirely new knowledge, a level above what we had known before. We were always guided, supported, and encouraged to work through difficulties, which made the experience both manageable and motivating.

Studying in the BBA program at the University of Tartu showed me that life itself can be seen as a kind of business project that requires effort, time, and patience. But with the right environment and professional mentors – our lecturers, this journey becomes not only more meaningful but also truly exciting.

Studying at the Delta building was honestly one of the most enjoyable parts of my time in Tartu. Every time I attended a lecture there, I caught myself thinking how fortunate I was to study in such a place – a new, modern, and student-oriented campus where you can truly feel the community and the spirit of innovation all around you. And I cannot fail to mention the Delta canteen, which was a motivation on its own to come to campus, and I’m sure I will remember that delicious food for the rest of my life.

Also, the most enjoyable part of my studies in Tartu was seeing myself grow and absorbing knowledge I could never have imagined I would gain. Every course and experience pushed me to expand my perspective and develop skills that I now consider essential.

At the same time, it was the people who made this journey truly valuable. Meeting such talented and versatile individuals, learning from them, and sharing this path together was one of my biggest achievements and something I will always cherish.

Student life at the University of Tartu is always vibrant, so there is truly something for everyone. For me, one of the most rewarding experiences was volunteering at Delta Trends Day, where I had the chance to join the marketing team and conduct interviews with our incredibly talented and well-known guests from different fields.

Another highlight was the Student Fair in Riga, which was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I had the honour of representing the University of Tartu among dozens of other universities and sharing my unique study journey with prospective students interested in joining.

I also had the rare opportunity to attend a gathering dedicated to education at the Estonian Embassy in Riga. It was such a unique and memorable experience– something I could never have imagined happening to me before. But this is exactly what studying at the University of Tartu does: it opens doors to opportunities that once seemed impossible.

The BBA program supported my future by developing me as a professional across multiple fields, including economics, finance, accounting, management, HR, communication, and many others. I graduated with a deep and well-rounded knowledge base, which not only makes me a strong candidate in the job market but also a versatile individual. The program taught me to recognise opportunities and see potential in every challenge, equipping me with the skills and mindset to navigate a variety of professional paths with confidence.

I am currently working as a Creative Strategist for the Norwegian company Go-to Brands. After all the knowledge and skills, I gained during my studies, I finally feel that I am making a real impact and contributing to the development and growth of a business. I have connected with the field I have always been passionate about – marketing, and every day is filled with curiosity and genuine interest in the work I do. It is incredibly rewarding to apply what I have learned during these 3 years of studies in real-world projects and see the results of the gained knowledge shaping strategies and driving success.

I would recommend the BBA program to anyone who is curious about the world of business and eager to develop a broad, versatile skill set. It is ideal for those who want to gain a strong foundation across multiple areas such as finance, accounting, management, marketing, HR, and communication, while also growing as a creative and adaptable professional. This program is perfect for students who are ready to embrace challenges, deepen their knowledge in business and grown into professionals who make the real impact.
