Estonia is once again the world champion in mind sports

For the third time already, Andres Kuusk, Lecturer in Economic Modelling and Research Fellow at the UT Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, has won the World Championship in mind sports. In addition, Martin Hõbemagi won the Junior Pentamind World Championship and Madli Mirme, UT student of Business Administration, won the Women’s Pentamind World Championship.

In August, the international Mind Sports Olympiad took place in London and a part of it was the world championship in mind sports pentathlon: Pentamind World Championships. For the third time already, the title of the World Champion was awarded to UT Research Fellow and Lecturer in Economic Modelling Andres Kuusk.

At the championship, players compete at different mind sports, including classic games such as chess and checkers, the crossword game Scrabble, poker and strategic board games. The player with the highest top five scores is crowned the Pentamind World Champion.

Andres Kuusk received 477.03 points in total, followed by Matthew Hathrell with 475.38, Tim Hebbes with 447.17 and Martin Hõbemägi with 444.22 (junior champion). The 2014 championship featured a record 334 participants. In total, the competition programme included 50 different games.
