This study explores the impact of co-authorship, tenure status, and foreign education on publication citation outcomes. Using a dataset of 4,806 papers from the top 10 U.S. economics departments (2014–2024), we analyze how domestic versus international and established versus new co-authorship patterns affect scholarly impact. Results reveal that established domestic collaborations significantly improve citation outcomes compared to single-authored papers, while new international collaborations generally yield lower citation outcomes. However, tenured faculty benefit from higher citation impact through new international collaborations, leveraging their experience and networks. Conversely, foreign-educated faculty experience greater citation impact from established domestic collaborations, capitalizing on their global experience and local academic integration. This research contributes to the literature on academic collaboration by highlighting the interplay between collaboration modes and individual academic backgrounds, offering practical insights for enhancing research productivity.
